چکیده مقاله:

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is adisorder of hyperandrogenemia and chronic anovulation which affects 5-10% of all women. It has been reported that women with PCOS often have serum lipid level elevation. This study compares serum lipid levels in women with and without polycystic ovary syndrome. Materials and Methods: In this comparative-cross sectional study, lipid profiles (Total cholesterol, Apo lipoprotein A–I, Apo lipoprotein B, HDL, LDL, TG, and lipoprotein a) in 154 women (57 with and 96 without PCOS) were compared. Results: There were no differences between two groups in terms of age, age of menarche and body mass index (BMI). Serum levels of total cholesterol, Apo lipoprotein A–I, Apo lipoprotein B, HDL, LDL , TG, and lipoprotein a didn’t show any differences between two groups, but Apo Lipoprotein A-1 level was higher in women with PCOS in comparison with no PCOS . When subjects were classified according to their BMI, similar results were obtained for those with BMI less than 25 . However, PCOS subjects with BMI higher than 25 had a significantly higher serum level of total cholesterol, Apo lipoprotein A–I, LDL, and TG than PCOS subjects with BMI less than 25 . Conclusion: The present study doesn’t support the notion that PCOS affects serum lipid levels except for Apo Lipoprotein A-1 . Future studies are to consider insulin profile in similar comparison

Lipid Profile and Leptin Levels in Patients with Metabolic Syndrome

Abstract Background and Objective: Metabolic syndrome called a cluster of several metabolic disorders is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. Genetic differences in leptin receptor gene are related with the concentration and activity of leptin in that these discrepancies can influence lipid levels. We aimed to determine the association between the leptin receptor gene p...

Evaluation of Lipid Profile in Women with Female Pattern Alopecia

Background: The correlation between coronary artery disease and androgenic alopecia has been demonstrated, but the mechanism of this association still remains to be cleared. Objective: To investigate lipid profile, as an indicator of coronary artery disease, in women with female pattern alopecia. Methods: Fifty one women with female pattern alopecia and thirty one healthy women with normal hair...

Adrenal hyperandrogenism does not deteriorate insulin resistance and lipid profile in women with PCOS

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of adrenal hyperandrogenism on insulin resistance and lipid profile in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PATIENTS AND METHODS We studied 372 women with PCOS according to the NIH criteria. 232 age- and BMI-matched women served as controls in order to define adrenal hyperandrogenism (DHEA-S >95th percentile). Then, patient...

P-212: Ala 307 Thr Polymorphism of FSHR in Iranian Patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

Background: Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) receptor plays an important role in FSH signaling during reproductive development. Any changes in FSHR gene is resulted in alteration of amino acid in protein chain, consequence to affect the binding affinity, intracellular signaling and expression levels of FSHR. FSHR polymorphisms can be involved in etiology of many reproductive disorders such as...
